Bear Grylls Invites Journalists to Experience ARTHUR THE KING Adventure Race

By Movieguide® Contributor

Renowned adventureman Bear Grylls recently invited 20 journalists, including Movieguide®’s Jeremy Carroll, to experience what racer Mikael Lindnord did in his remarkable race, as depicted in ARTHUR THE KING.

“So we’re out here in the sun, in the adventure, in the rain, and it’s kind of similar to what you went through but maybe a little more tame, right?” Carroll asked Lindord after the experience.

“I think we got a small taste…of how it is to be an adventure racer. I did this for almost 20 years, but that’s also the thing that we did here, we did also in the movie, so…ARTHUR THE KING is not the…same environment. We were out there in the bush, cliffs, everywhere,” Lindord said, “and I’m so impressed [with] all the staff and the crew and obviously the head experts for pulling off a movie like this.”

Director Simon Cellan-Jones told Comic Book Resources that he wanted the movie’s scenes to look dangerous, so they filmed in “tough” places.

In the Bear Grylls experience, the journalists ate scorpions, “rescued” a team member, zip-lined, rode mountain bikes, kayaked and tried to find their way in the bush through orange clouds of fog.

Outdoors journalist Daniel Terrill teamed up with Carroll for the kayak event.

Terrill wrote, “I paired up with Jeremy, who [works] for [Movieguide®], to share a kayak and it couldn’t have been a better match-up. We were nearly identical in height, weight, and build and we shared a passion for outdoor activities.”

“Out on the water, instructor Sean had us race out to one end of the shoreline. With our long arms, Jeremy and I were fast

Creekside Village residents in Florence moving out of hotels | News

FLORENCE — A few Housing Authority of Florence residents continue to live in hotels after their apartment building was declared unsafe, despite significant progress.

That means some will be celebrating the holidays from their hotel room.

Officials promise that the yearlong Creekside Village debacle will be over soon.

“I think everything worked out,” said Executive Director Alphonso Bradley, who took over midway through the crisis. “With all the transition we had, everything seems to have worked out. We set an aggressive timeline, and we didn’t meet it, but it caused us to work extra hard. I feel good about where we are.”

Jerrod Moultrie, the Housing Authority Commission’s vice chair, said the agency’s goal is to move Creekside residents out of hotels “as fast as we can.” But like Bradley, he said he felt good about the authority’s position.

Days of mold: Florence Housing Authority residents tired of living in hotels

It has been nearly a year since roughly 80 people were hastily moved to hotels after mold was discovered in the Creekside Village apartment complex off of West Palmetto Street.

Amid turmoil at the agency, which provides affordable housing to thousands of people across the Pee Dee, it took months to make any progress finding permanent homes.

Bradley promised in August that the agency would move the last 40 or so people out within three months. The Housing Authority blew past that deadline but has made steps in the right direction. About eight people remain as of the end of December, Bradley said.

Officials are moving about two people into new homes every week, he said.

Creekside residents who were displaced complained they lived in close quarters with few of their belongings and with little to no support or communication from the Housing Authority. Many spent months living out of a small hotel room on the outskirts of Florence.
