TE Izayah Cummings eager to join Jeff Brohm squad

Izayah Cummings made the right decision — both times.

Cummings was a three-star prospect at Male High School and chose Kentucky over Louisville. Deciding between the rival schools came with mixed feedback but Cummings did what was best for him at the time.

Four years later, he decided that what was best for him now is to come back to his hometown. The former Wildcat entered the transfer portal Nov. 29 and graduated from UK in December. Cummings will end his college career as a Cardinal.

“I had a bunch of friends telling me, ‘Welcome back home.’ ‘I’m glad to have you pick the right team now,’” Cummings said. “But at that time, when I did make my decision, it was the right thing for me.”

Cummings brings knowledge and experience to a Cardinals tight end room that lacked both in 2023. Josh Lifson and Duane Martin were the most experienced returners, with Lifson starting the first four games. Nate Kurisky then emerged as the starter for nine of the final 10 games, and Martin started against Virginia Tech.

Louisville lost Lifson and Joey Gatewood, who played tight end for the first time last season, to graduation but returns Kurisky, Martin and freshman Jamari Johnson. Louisville added two tight ends from the portal: Mark Redman (San Diego State) and Tanner Koziol (Ball State). Koziol later decommitted and rescinded his request to transfer.

“I just had to find that type of place that I feel like I could make a contribution as fast as possible because I knew like they (Louisville) needed some tight ends and they’re thin in it,” said Cummings, who played 43 games with four starts at Kentucky. “I can be that spark, and I can be that player that they’re looking for to make

Affordable travel destinations that can save thousands of dollars

If you’re planning a trip or vacation this year, there is finally some good news.

After two years of soaring costs due to high demand of “revenge travel,” that demand is easing a bit.

As a result, your 2024 getaway may cost less than you expect, especially if you choose some less popular destinations.

Lindsay Schwimer, consumer travel expert for the travel site Hopper, says “If you are planning a trip, you can find some really great deals right now.”

She advises travel prices are down slightly this year, even for bucket list destinations like Europe.

“For instance,” she says, “Dublin, Ireland, you can go for under $500 round trip.”

The key, she says, is to avoid the most popular cities like London and Paris.

“You can get a round trip flight to Brussels, Venice, Prague, or Nice for less than $700,” she says, if you avoid peak summer travel weeks.

But if you want something closer and cheaper, Schwimer recommends Mexico or the Caribbean, with round trip flights available for less than $300.

“It’s not that far away and you can still get that same feeling of really being away,” Schwimer said.

Unfortunately, she says you won’t actually save that much money by staying in the US, with domestic airfares still high, but says there are some flight deals available to Florida and Montana for around $250.

Again, the key is looking at less popular airports with a large number of discount airlines, such as Punta Gorda or Ft Lauderdale in Florida instead of Naples or Miami.

When to book

For domestic travel, Schwimer says “Start monitoring prices about three to four months in advance of your trip.”

You can do that using apps like Hopper or travel/flights” data-cms-ai=”0″Google Flights.

Then, she says, “You’ll want

21 injured in Texas hotel explosion, search efforts continue to ensure no one else trapped

At least 21 people were injured in Fort Worth, Texas, Monday afternoon after an explosion at the Sandman Hotel in the city’s downtown.

One of the injuries was critical, four were seriously injured and 14 of those were transported to a local hospital, officials said. One of those injured took themselves to the hospital.

Many of the injured were transported to area hospitals while crews extricated multiple individuals and searched for another missing person (who was reported as located by the City of Fort Worth at roughly 6:30 p.m. EST).

While fire crews and city officials in the area report that there is a “strong gas smell” near the vicinity of the Sandman, and a Fort Worth City Councilmember posted on Facebook that the blast was caused by a gas leak, authorities have yet to establish a cause for the detonation.

Regarding the smell, Craig Trojacek, public information officer for Fort Worth Fire Dept., told reporters at a briefing Monday evening that the department did not know if the gas smell was caused by the explosion or related to the source of the explosion. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, following the briefing, Fort Worth Fire said “There is a gas leak in part with this incident but can’t confirm it caused explosion.”

In a later update, Trojacek reiterated that the incident had characteristics of a gas explosion, but that it’s still under investigation.

He said the department received a call around 3:32 p.m. local time about a structure fire call at the hotel, which was quickly followed up by multiple calls concerning an explosion.

He added that while eyewitnesses reported seeing the fire start in the restaurant – and there was construction work being done on the premises – he could not
